Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump faced off in the second presidential debate of the 2016 U.S. election.
Clinton, the Democratic nominee, and Trump, the Republican nominee, faced each other and the American people in this town hall-style debate hosted by CNN’s Anderson Cooper and ABC News national security correspondent Martha Raddatz.

Since the Washington Post published the leaked footage of Donald Trump speaking with Billy Bush, women have been sharing their stories of sexual assault on social media.
The Donald Trump tapes were also the star of the show on ‘Saturday Night Live’ last night

From The Associated Press:
Before the second presidential debate, Donald Trump has appeared at an event with women who accused former President Bill Clinton of rape and unwanted sexual advances.
The Republican nominee did not take questions as he appeared with Paula Jones, Juanita Broaddrick and Kathleen Willey.
Jones is a former Arkansas state worker who filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Bill Clinton in 1994 for allegedly exposing himself to her in a Little Rock hotel room.
She says of Trump, “He’s going to make America great again.”
Also at the event was Kathy Shelton, who was a raped as a 12-year-old. Hillary Clinton represented the suspect as a public defender.
For more on this, read the full story here.
From The Associated Press:
Paula Jones says she’s in St. Louis to support Donald Trump.
She was the first of four women to speak at an unusual pre-debate meeting with Trump in St. Louis as the Republican presidential nominee tried to shine a spotlight on the sexual transgressions of Hillary Clinton’s husband.
Jones offered a message about Trump: “They should all look at the fact that he is a good person. He is not what other people are saying he’s being.”
In 1998, Bill Clinton agreed to an $850,000 settlement with Jones. She was an Arkansas state worker who accused Bill Clinton of exposing himself and making indecent proposition when Clinton was governor.
The settlement included no apology or admission of guilt.
Former President Ronald Reagan’s son is weighing in on Donald Trump’s pre-debate press event.

From The Associated Press:
Hillary Clinton’s campaign says Donald Trump is continuing a “destructive race to the bottom” by appearing with a group of women who have accused former President Bill Clinton of rape and unwanted sexual advances.
Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri said Clinton plans to use the Sunday night debate to talk to voters and “this stunt doesn’t change that.
Palmieri said Clinton is “prepared to handle whatever Donald Trump throws her way.”
From The Associated Press:
The fireworks at the second presidential debate exploded even before the candidates took the stage.
Donald Trump unexpectedly appeared live on his Facebook page with women who have accused former President Bill Clinton of rape and unwanted advances. They didn’t take questions but repeated some of the claims they made against Clinton years ago.
The women are expected to attend the debate as guests of Trump.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign responded by calling it a “stunt” that wouldn’t alter Clinton’s plans to speak directly to voters in the debate.
The stunning moment raised further questions about how directly Trump plans to go after Bill Clinton in the debate.
The debate has started.
Donald Trump says he’s “not proud of” his “locker room talk” that was captured in the recent tapes.
“Yes, i’m very embarrassed by it and I hate it. But it’s one of those things,” he says, before going on to say they focus on other things.
Donald Trump refuses to answer Anderson Cooper’s question of whether he groped women or bragged about groping women. Instead, he talks about illegal immigration.
Hillary Clinton now talking about the tapes.
“Donald Trump is different. I said, starting back in June, that he was not fit to be president and commander in chief.”
“What we all saw and heard on Friday was Donald talking about women, what he thinks about women, what he does to women, and he has said the video doesn’t represent who he is. but i think it’s clear to anyone who heard it, that it represents exactly who it is.”
Donald Trump: “It’s just words, folks. It’s just words.” In response to Hillary’s statements.
First question. “Trump says the campaign has changed him, when did that happen?”
Donald Trump: “That was locker room talk, i’m not proud of it. i’m a person who has great respect for people, my family, for the people of this country.”
“If you look at Bill Clinton, far worse. Mine were words, his were action,” Trump said. “Bill Clinton was abusive to women. Hillary attacked those same women.”
Donald Trump: “Don’t tell me about words, i absolutely apologize for those words… but what president Clinton did, he was impeached, he lost his licence to practice law…”
Donald Trump says Hillary Clinton “should be ashamed of herself” for denouncing his tape.
In the first 20 minutes of the debate, Trump’s tapes and Bill Clinton’s alleged actions have been the focus of the debate.
Trump: “The thing you should really be apologizing for, are the 33,000 emails that you deleted.”
Trump: “If I win, I am going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation because there has never been so many lies, so much deception.”
From the Associated Press:
Donald Trump denies he was discussing sexual assault in a 2005 recording that reveals him saying he can “do anything” with women because he is famous.
He says he has never kissed or groped women without consent. And he’s continuing to characterize the recording as “locker room talk.”
Debate moderator Anderson Cooper put it more bluntly, saying, “That is sexual assault.”
Trump responded: “No, I didn’t say that at all. I don’t think you understand what I said.”
Trump continually tried to pivot to foreign policy, seemingly suggesting his comments pale in comparison to the actions of the Islamic State.
Donald Trump asks Anderson Cooper why he “hasn’t brought up the emails” then says this debate is “1 on 3” insinuating the two debate moderators are on the side of Hillary Clinton.

Donald Trump brought up birtherism again, blaming it on Clinton. Here’s a fact-check of that.
Donald Trump asked about ban on muslims. Does he still support it?
Response: “The Muslim ban that in some form has morphed into an extreme vetting from some parts of the world.”
Donald Trump: “It’s called extreme vetting.” Trump refuses to say whether the ban he had previously championed still stands as a policy item.
Clinton asked about increasing the number of refugees. She says she won’t let anyone into the country who “poses a threat.”
“There are children suffering in this catastrophic war, largely i believe, because of Russian aggression and we need to do our part. we by no means are carrying anywhere near the load that Europe and others are. But we will have vetting that is as tough as it needs to be.”
Trump continues to say he was against the war in Iraq. He was for it, he said so on the Howard Stern show.

Hillary Clinton asked about having a private, and a public stance on issues.
“As I recall, that was something I said about Abraham Lincoln after having seen the wonderful Steven Spielberg movie about Lincoln…”
“I was making the point that it is hard to get the congress to do what you want to do and you have to keep working at it…”
Clinton suggests Russia is trying to influence the election to get Donald Trump elected.
Donald Trump: “I know nothing about Russia. I know about Russia, but I don’t have any dealings there.”
Donald Trump: “Of course I do” use $915 million write-off to avoid paying federal taxes.
Donald Trump: “I pay tax, and I pay federal tax too.”

From the Associated Press:
While Clinton’s health care proposals would expand the government’s role in the health care system, she’s not talking about dismantling the current system, which is a hybrid of employer-sponsored coverage, government programs like Medicare and Medicaid, and individually purchased insurance.
As president, Clinton would push for a government-sponsored insurance plan in the health care markets created by President Barack Obama’s health care law, as an alternative to private insurance. But those markets currently cover about 11 million people, while about 155 million have job-based coverage.
Both candidates asked to name one positive thing about the other.
Clinton: “I respect his children. His children are incredibly able and devoted, and I think that says a lot about Donald.” She goes on to say that his kids are a reflection of him.
Donald Trump: “I will say this about Hillary. She doesn’t quit, she doesn’t give up.”
“She’s a fighter, I disagree with much of what she’s fighting for…”
The debate is over. Next debate is on October 19.
